Part of a series of 3x4inch original black and white photographs from E. H. Pearson’s large format Graflex. Photo has a diagonally split-composition showing a rocky volcanic landscape atop the clouds on Mt. St. Helens, 1936. A remarkable photographic control of exposure settings. Pearson operated in his basement darkroom using a 7ft homemade enlarger.

St. Helens was known as a dangerous landscape prior to the 1980 explosion.

On this same climb, a tripod was lost on the crevasse fields.
